What happened to people’s rights?

DEAR EDITOR: I feel it’s shocking to see people picked up on the streets by masked, supposed federal agents. If that’s not bad enough, the reasoning President Donald Trump is using is that the people are anti-semites is flawed, especially in America. Firstly, whether you are a citizen or not, you have civil rights to legal representation and court if necessary. Secondly, I am not an antisemite or against anybody’s religion. I am against Bibi Netanyahu and the way he is using Israeli military power on helpless people in Gaza. That is my “political” decision. It is also my ...

What will Donald Trump do next?

DEAR EDITOR: Every morning, I wake up thinking, “What on earth will he do today?” I know it will make the world scratch their heads and think why did they vote for him? Let’s start with the smack talk about our friends and allies and the love on Putin. Remember the scene with Zelenskyy — very presidential — and the Jan. 6 tourists and now he’s talking about reparations for their jail time. Wow! Then we saw the selection of his great Cabinet — the ones from Fox News and the “loyal” ones. Another example, measles is caused from diet and exercise. We’ll never forget ...

SB 1 guts Ohio higher education

DEAR EDITOR: Gov. Mike DeWine signing Senate Bill 1 into law didn’t just hurt higher education in Ohio — it put a giant asterisk next to every degree that comes out of this state. Going forward, diplomas from Ohio’s public universities might as well come with a disclaimer: “Censored by the government.” When professors are forced to tiptoe around anything that could be deemed “controversial” from climate change to vaccines to even the concept of marriage, can anyone trust that students are being fully educated? SB 1 isn’t about improving education. It’s a blatant ...

Libraries provide so much for communities

DEAR EDITOR: In our recent world of chaos, I am compelled to write this plea to save the life of our libraries across the state of Ohio. It has come to my attention that the Ohio House Legislature intends to reduce major funding to the valued, rich and intellectual growth of our communities — our libraries. By cutting these funds, this budget will threaten the library’s great services such as access to technology centers, tax help, tutorials, hubs for economic progress, job search opportunities, educational programs for children, teens and adults, and especially senior citizens. ...

What’s wrong with today’s Democrats?

DEAR EDITOR: Why are the Democrats so hateful and nasty? They teach children not to be bullies, yet they are calling President Trump and the people who voted for him Nazis — I thought they were above this. They made fun of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has been in a wheelchair for 40 years. They even said they want to deport our first lady Melania Trump — and these are Democrat Congress people doing this. Name calling and screaming (AOC) about Trump, burning Tesla cars — that will get you nowhere. This stock pays wages and pensions. What are you doing? Let President Trump do his ...

U.S. approach to Canada is a mistake

DEAR EDITOR: This letter is written in response to the actions of the current presidential administration toward Canada. While daily headlines blare the latest bureaucratic blunders a recurring joke is uttered repeatedly by someone that has never been able to say much useful or funny. The joke is as follows: President Trump repeatedly and inanely suggests that Canada become part of the United States of America. No one in Canada thinks this is a smart idea. It is not difficult to see why. The very idea that Canada would ever become a part of the U.S. laughably highlights the ...
