NILES — City firefighters have been working for two years under an expired labor contract and negotiations have not yet led to a new one. An agreement reached between the city and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 320 expired at the end of 2014, and negotiations have been off and on since then. One fact finding session has been held, and another is scheduled in the few weeks before a fact finders report is published. McDonald has surveying done for athletic complex

McDONALD — The Board of Education approved an agreement with CTL Engineering Inc. for surveying of land that officials are considering for the location of a proposed $3 million athletic complex. The $9,500 agreement with the Canton company will include engineering and testing services on the land, which officials said is part of the purchase. The athletic complex is being considered for a 35-acre site near McDonald Avenue Extension and Olive Street between Second and Third streets. Niles prosecutor to seek judgeship NILES — The city prosecutor has announced his candidacy for Niles Municipal Court judge. Terry Swauger, of Niles, is seeking the seat Judge Thomas Townley is leaving vacant when he retires at the end of the year. The term begins January 2018.
