WHAT: Board of Education meeting Jan. 25

PRESENT: Diane Alejars, Cheryl Asente, Pete Cardiero, Mark Zuppo and Joseph Melfi

The board:

l Heard from resident Marty Gamble, who asked the board to consider posting future head soccer coach positions to include qualified outside applicants, noting the soccer program is gaining momentum and community support. The board will review the request;

l Approved making the sixth-grade Washington, D.C., trip organizer position a supplemental position;

l Will review its open enrollment policy and approved continuing the inter-district open enrollment for grades kindergarten to sixth;

l Approved changing the boys / girls head soccer coach supplemental position to two separate positions;

l Hired Alexandria Narotsky as an instructional assistant at Prospect Elementary School at seven hours per day;

l Reported Fairhaven School students will attend the ''Winter Classic'' in early March at the high school, where students interact with cheerleaders and the basketball team.

WHAT: Trumbull County Board of Developmental Disabilities organizational meeting Jan. 23

PRESENT: Dominic Albanese, Elizabeth Calderone, Lawrence Connelly, Mary Cunningham, Larry Larson, Cynthia Poplyk and Kevin Reilly

The board:

l Named Reilly as president, Connelly as vice president and Cunningham as secretary;

l Approved the following committee chair appointments: Cunningham, ethics and policy / program; Reilly, personnel; and Connelly, finance and buildings, grounds and maintenance;

l Approved payment of membership dues to Ohio Association of County Boards Serving People with Developmental Disabilities at $25,000. Superintendent Ed Stark said there has not been an increase in nine years;

l Announced the center will take part in ''All Paths Lead to Employment'' 5 to 7 p.m. March 14 at Trumbull Career and Technical Center;

l Will hold a board member training session and two required webinars during the year;

l Set meetings for 5:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month at Fairhaven School in Niles.
