McDONALD -- The Board of Education approved an agreement with CTL Engineering Inc. for surveying of land that officials are considering for the location of a proposed $3 million athletic complex.
The $9,500 agreement with the Canton company will include engineering and testing services on the land, which officials said is part of the purchase.
The athletic complex is being considered for a 35-acre site near McDonald Avenue Extension and Olive Street between Second and Third streets. The board in November approved an agreement with First Baptist Church of McDonald for the land at $225,000.
Board members have said environmental testing and surveying needs done to determine if the property is suitable for that use. Last month, the board approved seeking proposals for professional design services from architectural firms for the facility.
The complex would include a football stadium, all-weather track, fitness center, restrooms and a concession stand.
Officials said the goal is to complete the project by 2018. Voters in the district earlier this month approved a renewal levy to support the new facility.
In other business at the Jan. 24 special meeting, the board approved CXtec of Syracuse, New York, at $42,656 for installing replacement network switches for the computer systems in the schools.
Teachers Samantha Rozzo and Laurie Smith previously discussed technology, explaining the computer systems have been experiencing recurring network outages lasting from one hour to several days, affecting instruction and learning.
School employees have told the board the students need to use the computers for state required testing that needs to be completed by April.
Johnson said it found the cause of the outages involved the computer system's network switches.
''We have been struggling recently and trying to isolate the problems with the network,'' he said.
Johnson said both the switches and wiring will be updated.
In other action, the board
l Set a buildings and grounds committee meeting 4:45 p.m. today at the high school media center. A tour of the schools will be conducted at that time and a review of work that has been done;
l Hired Jeana Wert as elementary intervention specialist at $34,327;
l Announced a benefit noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 12 at the village banquet hall to help eighth-grade student Analese Booth, who is battling liver cancer. The high school is also selling special bracelets to help raise funds.
