Niles seeking new park board member

NILES — The administration plans to replace a park board member by Friday, Service Director Edward Stredney said. Paul Hake, who was serving as president of the Niles Park Board, as appointed by Mayor Tom Scarnecchia, resigned April 17 just before a special council meeting. Hake walked into council chambers and announced loudly that he quit. NILES — The only attorney not accepting campaign contributions in the Democratic primary race to be the next Niles Municipal Court judge outspent his three competitors combined dollars by more than double, according to campaign finance reports filed at the Trumbull County Board of Elections. The reports were due April 20 and cover spending for the May 2 race from Jan. 1 to April 12. Girard hopes changes improves projection

GIRARD — City officials hope redistribution of speed camera money will help counter a “worst-case scenario” general fund deficit of $400,000. City council recently approved moving more money collected from fines generated by speed radar cameras to the general fund. The general fund pays for most day-to-day operations in the city. Retroactive to April 1, 50 percent of the camera profit will go to the general fund, 25 percent will go to the police department, 20 percent will go to streets and sidewalks, and 5 percent will go to parks and recreation.
