Niles hosts annual Relay For Life

NILES — The Niles Relay For Life will be held 6 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Niles Wellness Center at Waddell Park, with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. This year’s theme is “The Movement to End Cancer.” The event will kickoff with a survivors and caregivers lap 6 p.m. Friday, followed by a dinner for the survivors. Commission shoots down fiscal plan

NILES — The City Council president and three other members of the fiscal oversight commission April 19 turned down the mayor’s latest fiscal recovery plan. The sixth version of the plan — requested by the Niles Fiscal Planning and Supervision Commission when elements of the fifth version did not pan out — should contain solutions to spending the city is likely to face in the near future, Council President Robert Marino said. Treasurer says office on track, revenues up

NILES — The city treasurer said the city has collected $380,000 more in income taxes than predicted for this point in the year. The city also will save money because a bank change has led to utility customers helping to shoulder bank fees.
