NILES -- The administration plans to replace a park board member by Friday, Service Director Edward Stredney said.
Paul Hake, who was serving as president of the Niles Park Board, as appointed by Mayor Tom Scarnecchia, resigned April 17 just before a special council meeting.
Hake walked into council chambers and announced loudly that he quit. The announcement came several days after a couple of council members suggested the mayor appoint new members to the board if they could not meet often enough to find ways to generate more revenue at the Niles Wellness Center, which falls under the jurisdiction of the three-member volunteer board.
