City man pleads not guilty to drug charges

LIBERTY — A Warren man pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday after being arrested Friday afternoon on an active warrant by Liberty police.

Brian Whitmore, 41, of Warren, was charged with failing to appear in court on possession of drugs and driving under suspension.

According to the police report, an officer traveling south on Logan Way noticed a vehicle traveling north with its rear window busted out and covered in plastic. He also noticed a large item on top of the vehicle, which its front seat passenger, later identified as Whitmore, was holding with his arm outside the window.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and made contact with the driver, two backseat passengers and Whitmore, who explained the rear window “got busted out” and they were on their way back from Youngstown U-Pull-It with a new window in tow, which is what Whitmore was holding on top of the vehicle, the report states.

The officer ran LEADS on each of the people in the vehicle, which revealed Whitmore’s active warrants, and he was immediately ordered out of the vehicle and placed into handcuffs.

One of the officers on the scene looked into the vehicle’s cigarette container, where he found a bindle with an orange powder in it. Whitmore said it contained crushed-up and unprescribed buprenorphine, a pain killer, the police report states.

Whitmore’s bail was set at $1,500 for his driving under suspension charge and $7,500 for his drug possession charge. He’s set to appear back in Girard Municipal Court for a pretrial hearing Wednesday, court records show.

Starting at $3.23/week.
