City house fire being investigated as arson

WARREN — The Ohio State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that damaged a Warren home early Saturday that is being investigated as aggravated arson, according to the police department.

Officers responded to a call about a structure fire in the 700 block of Lehner Avenue SW around 4 a.m. Saturday, the report states. The incident occurred near the intersection of Oak Street SW and Jackson Street SW.

Dispatchers noted flames and light smoke were visible, but it was unclear if anyone was inside the single-family home. Police arrived simultaneously with firefighters, who later pointed out signs of arson at the southwest corner of the house, including a melted plastic bottle, a burn line in the grass leading to the structure and a strong gasoline odor, the report states.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal was called to the scene for further investigation. The home, owned by a man who lives there, sustained damage, though the extent and value of the loss were not specified. No injuries were reported.
