Giving thanks for Browns broadcast

DEAR EDITOR: I should be able to watch the Cleveland Browns on local cable television. I was surprised, upset and confused when I went to turn on the Browns vs Steelers game and I could not find the game with my basic cable subscription. When I looked up where to find the game, another wave of anger set it. Why should I need an Amazon Prime subscription to watch my local team play? I wanted nothing to do with Amazon and refused to sign-up just to watch one game. I was lucky to find my old radio so I could at least listen in. Thank you to the Cleveland Browns radio network for not ...

DEAR EDITOR: Donald Trump won the election. I accept that he’s the next president. I do not, however, complacently accept the unqualified advisors being gathered to join the upcoming Trump administration. The president must meet no qualifications except age and citizenship, but advisers must pass security clearances and earn senate approval. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s choice for Secretary of Health and Human Services, does not know enough about epidemiology. He understands brain worms and opposes vaccines, although he won’t eliminate them. Multiple presidents and their ...

Sound off!

Now that Trump is in power — a scary thought, but also a welcomed one — the hope is that his administration has a fecund (Democrats will have to look this up in a dictionary) term. Let’s also hope that the promise of MAGA comes to fruition in case the Democrats return to power in 2028 and establish MAMA (Make America Miserable Again). — Hubbard Each new day brings another mind-boggling Trump Cabinet pick. Aside from blind loyalty, NONE of these controversial people have the experience and expertise necessary to fill these vital roles. Many are absolute lunatics, deniers and ...

Scare tactics worked well against Harris

DEAR EDITOR: OK, I get it. A female president is asking way too much for most of this country. Some say Kamala “worked her way up.” Why yes she did ... graduating law school and then serving as a prosecutor, attorney general, senator and currently our vice president of the United States. Pretty accomplished in my book, all while passing FBI background checks, amazing! Those scare tactics sure did work, though, so kudos to the GOP for relentlessly talking about males competing on girls teams, using their bathrooms, “illegal aliens,” and paying more for eggs and gas. ...

Look out for the safety of animals

DEAR EDITOR: I’m a nursing student at Youngstown State University and a Warren native. I’m writing due to the increase in animal abuse, abandonment, and lack of care in the area. I’ve spoken with local animal organizations that are also concerned and want the public to know more. The Trumbull County Dog Warden in Howland focuses on dogs running loose or involved in an attack. When they get a new dog, they announce it on their Facebook page to try to find its owner. If no owner comes forward, the dog is kept at the pound and put up for adoption. They want the community to know ...

Do something about human trafficking

DEAR EDITOR: Human trafficking has become a significant issue in Youngstown, as it continues to remain one across the globe. Ohio has one of the nation’s highest concentrations of truck stops, a significant vulnerability to homelessness, and is located near the Canadian border and major cities. These factors, along with economic instability, substance abuse, and a lack of resources, contribute to the heightened risk of human trafficking, particularly targeting young boys and girls. Youngstown’s unemployment rate has been higher than it has been in past years, reflecting ...
