Remember that laws exist for a reason

1 min read

DEAR EDITOR:

Now the hebdomadal letter writer from Canfield is basically saying that the BLM riots gave license to a mob of ransacking insurrectionists to tote banners declaring "one country under Christ and Trump" and attack our Capitol on J6.

This Iron Age mentality, so tenacious in the Middle East, ignores the principle of considering whether that action was inherently right or wrong, regardless of what others did. Although there are more serious examples, if a few people throw trash on the street and elude prosecution, should everyone do the same?

Lest we forget Henry Martyn Robert, of Robert's Rules of Order fame, who wrote "When there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty."
