Letters to the editor

Anne Frank account of Jewish experience DEAR EDITOR: Anne Frank hid in an attic from the Nazi soldiers. The setting was an apartment in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She eventually was captured and hauled off to a concentration camp in Poland. Her father, the only family member to survive the camps, traveled back to Amsterdam after the war. The diary Anne left behind, “Diary of a Young Girl,” is one of the most vivid accounts of the atrocities against a helpless Jewish population. There is another young child that hid in an attic. She was not Jewish. Her complexion was high yellow. The ...

Hey, PETA! Leave Buena Vista alone

DEAR EDITOR: I was surprised when I heard that PETA was going to protest at Buena Vista. Why they chose Buena Vista is beyond me, so I made up my mind that I was going to be there Saturday, Feb. 15. When I pulled in there, I thought all the people in front were protesters. I saw Nick Frankos and he said that they were Buena Vista supporters. PETA consisted of a truck and a driver. Buena Vista has been in business for almost 70 years and supported our community just as long. Buena Vista paid to have a sports center built for the Harding Panthers. Nick Sr. supported me in the Soap Box ...

DOGE is working for all Americans

DEAR EDITOR: The people have spoken, and with a roar, DEI was canceled everywhere. DOGE is the new order of the day, and the Democrats are protesting, perhaps just a bit too loudly. What are the Democrats angry about? Is it that some of their schemes are on the verge of being exposed to the entire country? Is the answer as to how a member of Congress or the Senate can “suddenly” become millionaires once in office about to be revealed? Are they afraid that their gravy train of corporate donors and all of the “unaccounted” for money being funneled into Third World countries under ...

Let’s put a stop to the nonsense

DEAR EDITOR: Elections have consequences. Isn’t that what they always say? Especially the winning side. Could it be the consequences of this past election have put our country in danger of being physically attacked by our adversaries? These rounds of blanket firings of government employees without a thorough examination of their duties has led to this possibility. Combine that with the ineptitude of those charged with leading these agencies (because of their political loyalties) and you have a perfect storm. The most blatant example is the recent firing of hundreds of employees of ...

Star Parker got it wrong yet again

DEAR EDITOR: Not even one month into the “Trusk” administration, Star Parker (Vindy, 2/6/25) is announcing a new savior: Elon Musk. Why is he uniquely qualified for this messianic role? Because, says Parker, he’s too rich to be tempted by “the Washington culture of quid pro quo.” As usual, Ms. Parker has not thought this through. She’s wrong on at least two counts. First, there’s only one Messiah, and we all know who that is for the MAGA crowd (recall Trump’s “I alone can save you”?). How long until these two mammoth megalomaniacs realize that they can’t ...

Americans want their republic back

DEAR EDITOR: A Howland man wrote early in February that Democrats still talk about President Trump the same way and cry about his election. He said Biden pardoned too many people compared to the Jan. 6 convictions pardoned by Trump. He complained that too many “illegals” take away restaurant jobs from Americans. He complained that Trump was indicted over false claims while Hillary Clinton and Biden’s son were guilty but not charged. He believes that Democrats want “illegals” to get the vote so they can finish destroying America. The writer should be aware of the ...
