Support for Poppy Campaign appreciated

DEAR EDITOR: Howland American Legion Post 700 and Auxiliary Unit 700 would like to thank those who generously contributed to our Poppy Campaign, which took place outside of the Cortland Walmart on May 24 and June 28. Members of the community donated to and spoke encouraging words to the veterans and auxiliary members participating in the Poppy Campaign. Power was restored quickly, professionally

DEAR EDITOR: I live on Arthur Drive in Warren. On Thursday, June 19 around 6:21 p.m., a very large tree fell and downed at least 10 telephone poles that fell like dominoes with live wires everywhere. I hadn’t seen so many poles down since the May 31,1985 tornado. It was reported at 6:27 p.m. to Ohio Edison. Around 100 of us in the neighborhood were without power. By 6pm a crew of linemen arrived. They removed the live wires, cut up the tree, removed the downed poles and brought the new poles. They worked until midnight. These linemen had just worked six 16-hour days. They returned ...

DeWine, legislators deserve a big onion

DEAR EDITOR: I can’t believe the Ohio legislators and Gov, Mike DeWine giving $600 million dollars to the billionaire owners of the Browns from the unclaimed money funds. They could surely use the money to at least fund all the needy food banks in Ohio. The less fortunate constituents in Ohio clearly need it more than greedy football team owners. DEAR EDITOR: My husband and I are searching the internet for someplace cheaper to live.Property tax, water rates, income tax, sales tax here in the Mahoning valley are not as cheap as some believe they are. Googling “cheapest states to live 2025.” Ohio is not even in the top 15. With Chat GPT Open AI, Ohio is not in the top 20! So while the state tax is low, and some would consider Ohio as a “cheap state to live,” the local taxes, both income and sales tax, and city utilities make Ohio unlivable for some during hyper-inflation.
