Reward offered in Niles death probe

NILES — Police here have partnered with Crimestoppers in Youngstown to try to further the investigation into the October 2016 death of an elderly woman inside her Hiram Street home. The agencies announced Tuesday there is now a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in the death of Arlene Frasca, 74. Longtime parks director has retired

NILES — After serving as Niles parks director for 44 years, Carmen Vivolo retired Friday. The Niles Park Board voted Friday to accept his resignation, effective immediately. “This is a sad day for me, I was working for the city when we hired (Vivolo) more than 40 years ago. He did a great job. He could be dramatic, but he followed through on everything. We appreciate his years of professional management,” said Niles Mayor Tom Scarnecchia. McDonald board selects new counselor

McDONALD — The McDonald Board of Education at a special meeting Thursday named Tracy Bosheff as guidance counselor for both McDonald High School and Roosevelt Elementary. Bosheff was granted a one-year contract at $70,751 and will replace Emily Brown, who left the guidance position when a family member was hired for a job out of state.

Niles takes first step on emergency levy

NILES — The Niles Board of Education on Thursday took the first step to placing an emergency, 10-year additional school levy on the Nov. 7 ballot. School Treasurer Linda Molinaro said the county auditor will be asked to certify the exact millage needed to raise $2 million annually for day-to-day needs and general operations of the school district. Molinaro said this will be the first new money the district has asked for in 10 years. The board will take final action for official placement on the ballot at a special meeting 5 p.m. July 31 at the board offices.

Church accepting King Foods orders

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., Niles, is accepting orders for King Foods, formerly Smart Food Choice, with cash, check, money order or EBT card 11 a.m. to noon July 17. Orders also will be taken 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. that day at Niles Community Services, 401 Vienna Ave., Niles. Options include meat and vegetables, kids box, mini box, tree of life box, breakfast box, Tilapia fish box, vegetarian box and a grill box. Prices range from $22 to $45.
