NILES -- The Niles Board of Education on Thursday took the first step to placing an emergency, 10-year additional school levy on the Nov. 7 ballot.
School Treasurer Linda Molinaro said the county auditor will be asked to certify the exact millage needed to raise $2 million annually for day-to-day needs and general operations of the school district.
Molinaro said this will be the first new money the district has asked for in 10 years.
The board will take final action for official placement on the ballot at a special meeting 5 p.m. July 31 at the board offices.
