Longtime parks director has retired

NILES — After serving as Niles parks director for 44 years, Carmen Vivolo retired Friday. The Niles Park Board voted Friday to accept his resignation, effective immediately. “This is a sad day for me, I was working for the city when we hired (Vivolo) more than 40 years ago. He did a great job. He could be dramatic, but he followed through on everything. We appreciate his years of professional management,” said Niles Mayor Tom Scarnecchia. NILES — Over the last few years the revival of the Harry Steven Hot Dog Day in Niles has been gaining steam. Reward offered in Niles death probe

NILES — Police here have partnered with Crimestoppers in Youngstown to try to further the investigation into the October 2016 death of an elderly woman inside her Hiram Street home. The agencies announced Tuesday there is now a $10,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of persons involved in the death of Arlene Frasca, 74.
