Community dance set for Thursday

McDonald board sued for alleged Sunshine Law violation

MCDONALD — A Portage County man has filed a lawsuit against the McDonald Local School District’s Board of Education, claiming that the board violated the state’s Sunshine Laws with how it conducts its meetings. The complaint by Brian Ames, filed Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, claims that the board conducted executive sessions for unapproved purposes in meetings between Jan. 27, 2025 and Feb. 18, 2026, and that the matter stated as the session’s purpose was not specifically approved by Ohio Revised Code 121.22(G). Medicaid says it will stop paying for some gender-affirming care for transgender minors

President Donald Trump’s administration said that Medicaid will stop paying for gender-affirming surgeries and hormone treatments for transgender minors and the state Children’s Health Insurance Program won’t pay for the treatments for those under 19. The policy is to take effect Oct. 13. It is not clear how much taxpayer funding is going to cover gender-affirming treatments for transgender youth now. US stocks edge further from their records as oil prices keep swinging

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks slipped a bit further from their records Tuesday, while oil prices kept swinging on uncertainty about when the war with Iran will allow crude to flow freely again. The S&P 500 fell 0.3% for a second modest drop since setting its all-time high on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 184 points, or 0.3%, and the Nasdaq composite sank 0.6%.
