Bill would require Border Patrol to adopt shelter dogs

Congressman Dave Joyce introduced a bill to require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to establish a pilot program to adopt dogs from local animal shelters to be trained as part of the agency’s Support Canine Program. The CBP in 2023 launched the Support Canine Program to improve staff morale, assist in grief, aid in trauma recovery from critical incidents and strengthen community outreach. Child injured after being struck by Warren firetruck

WARREN — A 10-year-old child was taken to the hospital Sunday with potentially serious injuries after he rode his bike through an intersection and was struck by a city firetruck. According to the crash report narrative, the firetruck was northbound on Nevada Avenue, entering the intersection of it and Union Street. At the same time, the boy was westbound on Union and traveled through the stop sign without stopping or slowing down — leading the firetruck to hit him and cause minor damage to both vehicles.
