Child injured after being struck by Warren firetruck
WARREN — A 10-year-old child was taken to the hospital Sunday with potentially serious injuries after he rode his bike through an intersection and was struck by a city firetruck.
According to the crash report narrative, the firetruck was northbound on Nevada Avenue, entering the intersection of it and Union Street.
At the same time, the boy was westbound on Union and traveled through the stop sign without stopping or slowing down — leading the firetruck to hit him and cause minor damage to both vehicles.
The boy was found to be at fault and was issued a failure to stop citation for causing the accident, and he was transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital for treatment of visible injuries, which the crash report notes are suspected to be serious.
The report notes the boy was not wearing safety equipment.
The crash report notes the firetruck was going 20 mph at the time of the collision, and its operator and passengers were not harmed. No time is listed on the report.
