WHAT: Township trustees meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Steve Gerberry, Ed Whittaker and Richard Harkins

Trustees:

• Approved the use of township park pickleball courts for a charity tournament 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 27 in memory of firefighter Thomas Donadee. Bill Adams of the Youngstown Regional Pickleball Group had requested the use of the courts for the fundraiser to help support the family of Donadee, a lieutenant and fire inspector who served the Boardman Township Fire Department for nearly three decades and who died of cancer in December 2025. Donadee was also a coach who enjoyed pickleball. The rain date is July 11.

• Received a $3,000 donation from Republic Services for the Weathersfield Community Connection Partners for expenses for the annual Flag Day Festival, June 11 to 13. The festival has been held since 2014.

• Approved a software license agreement with Affidavit Maker Software LLC of Springfield for one year at $600. The software is used by the police department for filing criminal charges with Niles Municipal Court.

• Approved participating with the county engineer’s winter fill program for rock salt for the 2026-27 winter season.

• Donated $100 each to Mineral Ridge Volunteer Fire Department Association and Girard American Legion, and $300 to Scout Troop 83 for flags and markers on veterans’ graves and for former firefighters’ graves at Kerr Cemetery and Welsh Hill Cemetery for Memorial Day.

• Announced the Memorial Day ceremony for 9 a.m. May 25 at community park.

• Announced spring cleanup is the week of April 27, with items to be placed at curbside and scrap tire collection April 27 to May 1.

LaBrae

WHAT: Board of education meeting April 13

PRESENT: Russell Sewell, Tom Gibson, Julia Shutt, Karen Ancell and Brad Gamlin

The board:

• Heard from Superintendent Anthony Calderone the band shelter is nearing completion with ground repair work being done. He said a ribbon cutting will be in August.

• Approved membership and participation with the Northeast Athletic Conference for the 2026-27 school year. Calderone said the district is joining a new athletic conference along with Champion, Brookfield and Liberty. LaBrae is now with the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference, which is reorganizing and reducing to one competition tier for next school year. Calderone said the district was seeking an athletic league affiliation that offers geographic proximity to member schools that permits competitive rivalries and does not unduly burden district resources.

• Met in executive session on collective bargaining talks with the teachers’ union whose contract expires in August.

• Recognized Cheryl Anderson and Debbie Lynch, both custodians, and Terri Gorrell, bus driver, who are all retiring at the end of the school year.

• Approved a shared services supplemental contract for participation in the Career Navigator program with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center at $11,985 per year for fiscal years 2027 and 2028.

• Approved the employment of Thomas Long and Scott Shaffer both as daytime custodians on one-year limited contracts.

• Approved Tiffany Steele as a Title I instructional aide at Bascom Elementary School for the 2026-27 school year.

• Approved use of school facilities for a twirling competition March 13, 2027.
