WHAT: City council meeting Monday
PRESENT: Reynald Paolone, Keith Schubert, James Clark, Wes Steiner, Todd Latell, Lily Martuccio, John Moliterno and Mayor Mark Zuppo
ABSENT: Thomas Grumley
Council:
• Approved proceeding with demolition of properties at 125 W. Second St., 103 Ella St. and 226 Prospect St. Officials said the properties have been inspected and condemned. The city is receiving assistance from the Trumbull County Land Bank and Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.
• Heard from Safety Service Director Mark Ragozine plans are proceeding by developer Jason Altobelli for the Maplewood Estates development off U.S. Route 422 with a Tax Increment Financing agreement to be in place. The development will have 37 units.
• Heard from Zuppo that Kids Dental will start remodeling a former Rite Aid off U.S. Route 422 with plans to open in late 2026.
• Heard from resident Roberta Lawrentz of the need for signage at Hartzell Park to let people know it is a park. She said there is also interest from residents in a community garden at the location. Schubert said he will look into what can be done for a park sign.
• Heard from Zuppo the downtown business owners group will meet Monday with Julie Green of the Trumbull County Planning Commission to discuss vacant downtown properties. Clark said discussion can also be on community reinvestment areas.
• Heard from Zuppo of plans for possible angled parking in a section of West Liberty Street and a greenspace area in the one section.
• Heard from Zuppo about officials reviewing options for the former Kay Lanes bowling alley off Route 422.
• Approved Anthony Moore as a firefighter/paramedic.
• Announced a meeting on Girard Lakes is set for 6 p.m. and finance meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. April 27.
• Announced the annual Memorial Day ceremony is at 10:30 a.m. May 25 at the Girard Cemetery hosted by American Legion Post 235.
