$10,000 stolen from sober house safes

WARREN — City police are investigating after $10,000 was reported missing from safes over the weekend.

According to a Sunday police report, an officer was called to Aris Street NW in response to a theft, and he spoke with two men, one of whom explained that the address is a sober house and that he was a manager there.

The manager said the house has safes in the basement for residents staying there, adding that both of them have safes and only have keys to their own.

The manager said he went downstairs to check on the safes when he noticed his safe was open and the other man’s was pried open, and he was called downstairs to look at the containers and their damage.

Both men noticed all of the money in their safes was missing, according to the report.

The other man said he had $8,900 in his safe, and the manager said he had $1,400, adding that his safe had no damage and didn’t understand how the suspect got into his safe.

The manager said they had a new resident move into the house a few days ago, but he was gone when they went to check on him Saturday morning. The new resident told no one he was leaving, including the property owner, the report states.

The report states the manager is unsure whether that person is the culprit at this time.

Starting at $3.23/week.
