High court declines appeal of convicted drug dealer

The Supreme Court of Ohio on Tuesday declined jurisdiction in the appeal of defendant Donteill M. Grant, 46, who is serving an 11- to 16.5-year sentence at Richland Correctional Institution for a high-level felony drug possession conviction.

Grant, of Sharpsville, Pa., was convicted and sentenced before Trumbull County Judge Cynthia Westcott on Nov. 6, 2024, which was upheld by the 11th District Court of Appeals on Nov. 10, 2025.

The Ohio Supreme Court’s decision means Grant has no further appeals available and will continue serving his sentence.

He was found guilty of trafficking and cocaine possession, both first-degree felonies, by a Trumbull County jury. Grant also was classified as a “major drug offender” after police discovered nearly 500 grams of cocaine, valued at $10,000, during a traffic stop in Brookfield on July 11, 2023.

Grant fled from officers during the stop, running across state Route 82, before he was apprehended. Police found a quart-sized bag containing crack and powder cocaine in his cargo pants pocket. Video footage from body and dash cameras documented the entire incident.

According to Brookfield police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz, it was the largest drug arrest on record in the township.

Grant previously served 13 years in prison in Mahoning County for voluntary manslaughter, aggravated robbery and other offenses.

Starting at $3.23/week.
