EMA seeks $50,240 for new headquarters renovation

WARREN — The Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency is requesting $50,240 from commissioners to help pay for projects needed for its move from its current home at 640 North River Road to its new location at the former Bazetta Fire Department at 773 Everett Hull Road.

Up to $32,500 will be used for site development for a new parking area for multiple equipment trailers. An estimated $17,740 will be needed to install new fencing around the area where the vehicles will be parked.

EMA Director John Hickey described having seven trailers, including a mass casualty and UTV, that need to be parked in a secure location. Hickey said the Trumbull County Fair leadership is providing the property it needs.

Preparing the property for these vehicles will include grading, leveling and excavation, as well as placing a catch basin. Hickey said they are not doing a full paving of the parking area with asphalt or concrete.

The chain-link fencing and gates around the area will be done by Canfield Fence, which provided the lowest and best bid, according to Hickey, who also noted the bids for the renovation of the former fire station are expected to be opened Monday at noon.

“My goal is to have the bid award on the April 28 (commissioners) agenda,” Hickey said.

Commissioner Tony Bernard said EMA employees and volunteers did a lot of the demolition inside the former fire station themselves, which is expected to lower the total cost of the project. Baker Bednar Snyder & Associates architectural firm estimated the demolition is expected to save between $25,000 and $30,000 off the entire renovation costs.

“We appreciate everything that has been done,” Bernard said.

Starting at $3.23/week.
