High School Sports Roundup from April 14
BASEBALL
Hubbard 10, Girard 0 — Braydon Songer was lights out for Hubbard, tying a school record with 16 strikeouts and throwing his second no-hitter of the season in six innings. He also contributed on offense with a hit. Michael Bobovnik led the Eagles with a pair of doubles and three RBI’s. Logan Balla and Maddox Pieton combined for four hits and five RBI’s with Balla driving in three runs. Jonny Adamson added two hits and Tyler Sarisky drove home a run for the Eagles.
Lakeview 10, Niles 0 — Blake Swinning and Nathan Paolucci had two hits and drove in a run each, with Newton hitting a triple to lead Lakeview. Hayden Newton, Brandon Toot, and Eli Gough had a hit and RBI each and Brandon Cash had a hit and two RBI’s for the Bulldogs. Nicolas Aho struck out seven. Brennen Hodge and Vincent Dennis had a hit each for Niles.
Warren JFK 16, Pymatuning Valley 0 — Lucas Mealy had two doubles and a base hit, driving in a run for JFK. Lucas Morrison had a pair of hits and three RBI’s and Trevin Rinck drove in two runs with two hits for the Eagles. Jacob Liber and Jason Andre had a hit and two RBI’s each and Nick Neimi and Brennen Santana had a hit and RBI each for the Eagles.
Brookfield 9, Liberty 2 — Blake Hammond and Bray Coleman had two hits each for Brookfield. Coleman homered and drove in three runs, while Hammond drove in one. Devin Reardon added two hits and an RBI and Braydon Demaria had three hits and two RBI’s. Luke Bates led Liberty with a pair of hits and an RBI and Maurice Fason had a hit and an RBI.
SOFTBALL
Austintown Fitch 13, Howland 2 — Fitch (12-0) remained unbeaten behind another quality start from Mila Hamley, who struck out six in five innings of work. Kylie Folkwein led the Falcons offense with a home run and three RBI’s. Lily Stevens added two hits and two RBI’s and Kaliana Ray had a triple, two singles and three stolen bases. Abby Toth and Morgan Roby also had two hits for Fitch, with Roby notching her 100th career hit. For Howland (6-4), Madison Schmitz had a home run and a single and Marissa Ray belted a sole home run.
Walsh Jesuit 10, Cardinal Mooney 0 — Seven different players had at least one hit for Walsh Jesuit, led by Girard with two hits and an RBI. Mineard added a hit and three RBI’s for the Warriors. Terlop, Berquist and Lippencott had a hit and RBI each. Grace Rinaldi had Mooney’s only hit of the game and Alexis McKinstry struck out four as the Cardinals starting pitcher.
Champion 13, Garrettsville Garfield 1 — Addie McIntosh had incredible performances on both sides of the plate. As a pitcher, she struck out 10. On offense, McIntosh totaled three hits, including a home run and five RBI’s. Jonna Strock and Josie Perhach added three hits each with Perhach driving in three runs. Ava Sylvester added two hits and Taylor Rouan drove in two runs for the Flashes.
Columbiana 14, Mathews 1 — Reagan Bell had four hits and an RBI for Columbiana (7-2). Natalie Barrow added three hits and drove in three runs. Ella Eisenbraun struck out eight and had two hits and two RBI’s offensively for the Clippers. Landry Smith drove in three runs and Josie Hepler had two hits, including a home run.
Poland 17, Niles 1 — Cassie Blanch belted a pair of two-run home runs in the second inning after Poland batted through the order and added another hit, driving in six runs total to lead the Poland offense. Poland led 15-1 after just two innings. Kristina Kushner and Ali Blinsky each had three singles and collected two RBI’s each. Avery Jakubovic had two hits, including an RBI double, as did Leanna Boccieri. Madison Medvec, Sydney Bulick and Lena Schafer each had a pair of hits that drove in a run, with each adding a double. Lily Madeline doubled in the fourth inning. J. Burke had a hit and RBI for Niles.
South Range 11, Girard 0 — The Raiders scored in all but one inning in the five-frame victory. Anna Aey and Keira Brogan combined for six RBIs. The South Range pair both homered, with Brogan going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and Aey was 2-for-3 with a pair driven in. Sophia Brogan also added a pair of hits with three RBIs and three runs scored. Chloe Plant was 2-for-3 at the plate and she took the loss after allowing 11 runs on 13 hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings of work.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Howland 3, Kent Roosevelt 0 — Wesley Fee led Howland (10-3) in a 3-0 victory over Roosevelt. Fee totaled 11 service points with three aces. He also had seven kills and three blocks. Freddie Rivera added 10 digs and eight service points for the Tigers. Evan Neely assisted on 12 points and Carter Jones had five kills.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Cardinal Mooney 7, West Geauga 6 — Sophia Rotunno scored four goals,caused four turnovers and 6 ground balls to lead Mooney (4-3). Molly Simons scored a goal and caused turnovers, Leah Hudak added a goal and six draw controls and Olivia Scott had a goal for the Cardinals. Ava Weeks made six saves in goal.
