Howland makes a series of contract-related moves

HOWLAND — The Howland Board of Education on Thursday made a series of contract-related moves, saying goodbye to several staff but welcoming or moving around others following an hour-long executive session at the meeting’s beginning.

The board approved granting one-year limited contracts to Judith Morrison and Kylie Kuhn as second-grade teachers at Howland Glen Primary School, pending satisfactory completion of all requirements for the 2025-26 school year. A one-year limited contract was also granted to Elisa Rosenberger as a third-grade intervention specialist at H.C. Mines Elementary School.

The board accepted the retirement resignation of Ann Gail as technology teacher, per her request, at the end of the day Aug. 31, 2025.

Two longtime employees also said goodbye, with janitor Barbara Quarrick and Kim Lewis, secretary to the central office, having their retirement resignations accepted. Quarrick spent 35 years with the district, while Lewis had been in her position for 19 years.

In other action, the board:

• Accepted the following donations: $1,000 from St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish to HHS Paw Pantry; $200 from Ohio Beef Council to Family & Consumer Science Culinary Fundamentals – Peri Graf; $50 from Jeff Pegg to the HIS Principal Fund for a student Arby’s trip; $448 from the Howland Tiger Booster Club to the Athletic Department’s Andrea Ferenac; four separate $250 donations from the Class of 2025 to the classes of 2026, 2027, 2028 and 2029.

• Approved unpaid dependent care leave of absence for Lauren Gibbs for the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved disposing of unused library books from H.C. Mines Elementary and Howland Springs Primary.

• Approved disposing of miscellaneous books and curriculum materials from H.C. Mines Elementary.

• Approved disposing of 594 oversized reading books from Howland Springs Primary.

• Approved disposing of two Sony Digital Mavica cameras.

• Approved disposing of an FD Mavica camera.

• Approved disposing of two refrigerators that were cost-prohibitive to repair.

• Approved entering a cooperative transportation agreement with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center and Community Bus Services Inc. for the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and Warren City School District for the use of their swimming pool for swimming practice Nov. 1, 2025, to Feb. 29, 2026.
