Newton Falls K-5 elementary / middle school building taking pause on energy consumption

NEWTON FALLS — The Newton Falls Exempted Village School District has installed a new energy-efficient chiller at the K-5 elementary / middle school building.

The installation marks a significant milestone in the school district’s ongoing efforts to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability, according to a news release from the district.

Rachel Rankin, Newton Falls High School / Junior High principal, said the chiller installation was made possible through the support of a $200,000 Energy Efficiency grant awarded to Newton Falls Schools by the Ohio Department of Development Services Agency. This grant has enabled the school district to undertake vital upgrades to reduce energy costs and improve energy consumption across its facilities.

Justin Christopher, superintendent of Newton Falls schools, said in addition to the installation of the new chiller, the K-5 building has undergone LED lighting upgrades. He said these measures are part of Newton Falls Schools’ comprehensive strategy to modernize infrastructure and create a more environmentally friendly learning environment for students and staff.

“We are thrilled to announce the completion of the chiller installation at our K-5 building. This milestone not only reflects our commitment to sustainability but also demonstrates our dedication to responsible stewardship of resources. We are grateful to the Ohio Department of Development Services Agency for their support in making this project a reality,” Christopher said.

Starting at $3.23/week.
