WARREN — A decades-old Cortland rape case is one of the 40 indictments handed up Tuesday by a Trumbull County grand jury.

Floyd Ruiter, 64, 176 Gates St., Cortland, is charged with three counts of rape that would carry a life sentence, five counts of first-degree rape, three counts of third-degree gross sexual imposition and five counts of fourth-degree sexual imposition.

The charges involve a female victim, who is now 29, spanning about 10 years — beginning some 20 years ago. Ruiter is accused of abusing the girl from the time she was 9 until she turned 18.

Jail records show Ruiter was arrested Feb. 27, and a $200,000 bond was set by Central District Judge Thomas A. Campbell. The case now has been assigned to Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos.
