McKinley Memorial Library to feature history of special effects
SPECIAL EFFECTS: The McKinley Memorial Library will host “Flash Pots & Pepper’s Ghost: A History of Theatrical Special Effects” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Al McKinnon will speak on the history of special effects in theater. Registration is needed by calling 330-652-1704, ext. 3.
BLOOMFIELD EVENT: North Bloomfield Historical Society will present its annual fall harvest dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the township hall. Ham and fried chicken will be provided, along with plates and utensils. Admission is free with a contribution of a salad or vegetable dish. Speaker is Roger Peterson, who will speak on “What Was and What is Bloomfield’s Past and Present.” For information, call 440-685-4410.
HALLOWEEN PARTY: Girard Free Library will host a Halloween party at 5 p.m. Thursday with special effects artist Jessica Duponty. She will show the guests how to make themselves into vampires and other creatures. Attendance is limited by calling 330-545-2508.
SIP AND PAINT: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host a Sober Sip & Paint with Party Art Cafe and Studio at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Participants will sip juice white creating an autumn-inspired painting at the McKInley Birthplace Home. All supplies will be provided. Registration is needed by calling 330-652-1704.
CRAFT SHOW: The Cortland Nazarene Community Church, 293 E. Main St., Cortland, will host a craft show 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from the table rentals and food purchases will benefit the church’s “Crisis Care Kits” project.
HALLOWEEN PARTY: The McKinley Memorial Library will host a Halloween party and pumpkin walk 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The pumpkin walk will take place at the National McKinley Birthplace Museum grounds. Cookies and cider will be served, and trick or treat will take place.
The Friends of the McKinley Memorial Library and local organizations and businesses are sponsoring the event.
BOOK SALE: The Friends of the Hubbard Library will host an annual fall book sale 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the meeting room on the first floor of the library. Guests can bring their own brown bag and fill it for $5.
All proceeds from the sale will benefit the library.
FALL FEST: Girard Free Library will host a children’s fall festival 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Children can paint pumpkins, play games and pose for pictures. The event is for ages up to 12.
