DEAR EDITOR: No doubt this slice of national and world history we are experiencing now resembles those of the past. Welfare is not the answer in America

DEAR EDITOR: Welfare is not a lifetime paycheck! It should be available for 5 years only. When FDR and LBJ passed a law for welfare it was meant for single moms and widows. During Ronald Reagan term he did significant “cuts” to Medicaid, welfare and food stamps. Why? Fewer people wanted to work. In 1964 there were only 9% of children living in single families, today 38.1 million. In 1978, Trumbull County had the highest divorce rate in all of the U.S., but mothers had child support, two words you never hear anymore. Child Support.
