Chamber gets it right on international students

DEAR EDITOR: Kudos to Guy Coviello and the Youngstown / Warren Regional Chamber for recognizing the vital role international students play in our region. At a time when isolationism is gripping much of the country, Coviello’s column offered a hopeful vision of how openness and diversity can help us revitalize the Mahoning Valley. Let’s encourage people to come here, not turn them away. CHRISTOPHER KROMER Warren

Prep announcer should recognize both teams

DEAR EDITOR: A big thumbs down to the announcer for the LaBrae Vikings football games. High school sports is about friendly competition and fun for all. This gentleman chooses not to tell who the visiting team is during pre-game announcements. He chooses not to announce starting players for the visitors. He chooses not to say players’ names for the visitors during the game. While he does a great job for the home team, his ignoring of the opposing team is rude and wrong. RAYMOND WEBKER Niles

Where are the Tribune police blotters?

DEAR EDITOR: There have been two letters in this paper asking why there are no more police blotters posted in our paper. This is the third. Two reasons why: first, there is no crime in the Tri-County area; or second, no one wants to tell us what is really going on in our various communities. I say it’s number two! RUTH LILLEY Niles

Sound off!

Kudos to the Tribune editorial staff for questioning Judge Campbell’s light sentence given to Anthony Marble-Salem for causing the vehicular homicide of Nick Stoian. Campbell’s pronouncement should be vacated, and the guilty party should be retried. It is ridiculous that taking a man’s life was punished by such a paltry sentence. Mr. Stoian not only lost his life, but the lives of his family (wife and three young children) will forever be altered. Remember this at the next election! — Warren Again this week I laughed as I read Sound Off. The usual writers from Canfield and ...

Immigrant children should not be sent away and hurt

DEAR EDITOR: It grieves me deeply that we have become a country where human lives, those of the immigrants in our country, are so expendable and treated like dirt, placed in horrific, unimaginable and dreadful conditions, basically steel cages, like those for animals that this administration is so proud of, with parents separated from children, many of whom may never see their parents again. It happened in Trump’s first administration, and it is happening again. Yes, there are many illegals that should be deported, but they are in the minority, and so many who are contributing to ...

Liberals are on the wrong side of normal

DEAR EDITOR: Why is it that the lunatic left-wing liberals are seemingly always on the wrong side of every issue? From the border, foreign affairs, the economy, gender, COVID, the war on fossil fuels, climate change, Iran, Israel and Hamas, immigration, crime, gangs, the Second Amendment and much, much more, they are completely out of touch with reality. In Iowa in October 2008 on the campaign trail, Obama said, “When elected I will fundamentally change the country” is when all this woke and corrupt crap started. He and his elite band of power-hungry crazies don’t give a rat’s ...
