DEAR EDITOR: Author Robert Caro, a guest on PBS History with David Rubenstein, wrote several books about Lyndon B. Johnson. He recalled one story about the Texas U.S. Senate race in 1947. Johnson lost, so they thought. Election polls started finding uncounted ballots. One box had ballots that were all written in the same handwriting. LBJ ended up winning. Warren should keep Cooke as dog warden

DEAR EDITOR: I attended the Warren City Council meeting on Feb. 10. The issue of the dog warden came up in the caucus meeting and the council meeting regarding the contract of the dog warden, Jason Cooke. The first lady who spoke said that the city needs to keep Jason on as dog warden and suggested that they hire a deputy warden, which is what I thought. Then a second woman spoke against Jason for having more animals than the shelter can hold, to which someone spoke out and said, “You should take them home then.” She also said that she didn’t like that Jason was taking dogs ...

DEAR EDITOR: Ohioans are focused on affordability as we head into the political season. At the top of that list is property taxes. So much so, that abolishment of property taxes may appear on the ballot. Whether it does make the ballot or not — every single candidate for office needs to answer two questions with specificity. Public transit or not in Trumbull County?

DEAR EDITOR: As someone who has been involved with transportation in Trumbull County since around 2008, I still don’t have definitive answers to one persistent question: “Do we need public transportation in Trumbull County or not?” Some elected officials — and many individuals who already have reliable transportation — believe we do not need it. DEAR EDITOR: Donald Trump’s long record of insults, slurs and demeaning rhetoric shows a consistent failure to recognize the dignity of others. That attitude doesn’t stay confined to speeches. It filters into the institutions he shapes. ICE is now confronting communities it should be working with, not against. An agency that depends on trust has instead embraced tactics that dehumanize immigrants, citizens and even its own agents.
