Sound off! March 7-8

Shame on U.S. Rep. Michael Rulli. Congressional censure is not about protecting Donald Trump’s delicate feelings. If Trump can’t take the heat for his own bad joke, he should resign. Where was Rulli when Trump posted the racist video? We can only assume Rulli is a racist, too.

Wake up, Warren City Council. After watching the last meeting, I was amazed at how unprofessional many members were dressed — in tennis shoes and blue jeans. City Council gave themselves an 89% raise, which equates to $1,000 per meeting, so they should be able to buy some business attire and look appropriate. Maybe a dress code should be in their council rules.

Democrat voters have a lot of historical facts before them going into the midterms and 2028. They can support their elected politicians’ decisions to support open borders, illegal criminal aliens, political decisions made by people whose only interest is getting reelected or to end our democracy, higher cost of living, protecting illegals rather than AMERICANS, not stating any of their policies, etc. Or they can support common sense, and vote Republicans from now on.

MAGA’s priorities and reality: Illegal votes — average .000285% of votes. Transgender men playing sports — 0.2% of college athletes. Trump blocked funding to USAID because 0.004% went to “DEI.” Cities “defunding police” – .066% of cities. Immigrants committing violent crimes: US-citizens are 3 to 4 times more likely to commit a crime. Crime rate decreased in 2023 with the influx of immigrants. Biden’s “record” inflation rate (2022) due to COVID — 14% of the prior 93 years had a higher annual inflation rate.

Forty-four percent of the locals missed the State of the Union, I’ll tell you what they missed. The Democrat Party refused to stand for an injured 7-year-old girl by an illegal driver, a U.S. pilot severely injured while destroying Iran’s nuclear bunker, the U.S. men’s gold medal-winning hockey team, a tearful Ukrainian mother’s loss of murdered daughter by a man with 34 prior arrests, and refusal to protect Americans over illegals. Democrats are soulless, evil, and full of hate for America.

— Warren

I support high school sports 100%. But to keep adding more financially has to stop at many schools.

— Niles

Trump made justifiable fools of the Democrats in his SOU address. ALL of Trump’s policies are moving America further toward greatness. Dumbocrats remained seated or didn’t show up, showing that they do NOT support closed borders, protecting Americans, America’s trade policies that are fair for America, bringing jobs back to America, enforcement of laws, etc. Americans should vote out ALL Democrats in the midterms and in 2028. Don’t believe their agenda to destroy America!

— Warren

In last weekend’s Sound Off, a writer from Warren challenged readers to name a section and article of the Constitution that Trump had violated. Really, really bad timing on the writer’s part seeing that their letter appeared in the paper the day after the Supreme Court ruled that Trump violated the Constitution when he issued his tariffs. I don’t know the exact Article and Section, but I bet the justices do.

Operation Epic Fury is the name given for the attacks on Iran. It seems these attacks were ordered to cover up American economic policy failures. After a year of on-again, off-again, on-again tariffs, a smackdown by the Supremes that they are illegal and no signs of better conditions for the American population, the current administration had to do something major to deflect from their American affordability disaster. I would suggest they rename the current economic policy; Operation Epic Failure.

Does the reader who gets 100% of their information from Newsmax realize that Newsmax paid $107 million to settle lawsuits charging them with lying? It wasn’t the $787 million its sister Republican-friendly news outlet Fox News paid but it was still a large sum. Americans need to explore the history of their news outlets. Especially cable news, internet news-sites and podcasts. They also need to understand that much of what cable news outlets create are opinion pieces, not hard news.

We hear many Democrats say we should not target countries for regime change. Vladimir Putin, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, Ayatollah Khamenei and Adolph Hitler strongly agree. How many tens of millions of lives would have been saved?

— Hubbard

Starting a war we shouldn’t be in, Trump said ‘some’ American lives will be lost. What would he say if it was HIS son? He uses words like obliterate, annihilate. He and Hegseth are maniacs. It almost seems they are having fun while using all the weapons available to inflict as much damage all over Iran and the Middle East. Hundreds of families may lose their loved ones, both civilians, children, and military members, but this doesn’t concern Trump.

Oh, the irony! Warren recently “earned” the Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation. How quickly it has been forgotten that in 2019 20 beautiful, historic trees, located behind Women’s Park, were cut down on the orders of Enzo Cantalamessa (current law director!). In 2021, 14 trees were planted at that location at a cost of $8,540 of the city’s money. Though new trees were planted, the historic significance of the original trees can never be recouped.

President Donald J. Trump, recipient of the initial FIFA Peace Prize, just launched the United States into his new war. Unlike Venezuela, Iran is a country of 92 million people. Nearly double the size of Iraq. Iran has a sophisticated military. Its influence and terrorist network extend throughout the Middle East and into the West. Boots on the ground? Will we need to reinstitute the draft? One must wonder if Barron inherited heel spurs?

Will the owners of the buildings from 168 N. Park Avenue to 144 N. Park Avenue in downtown Warren please clean up the trash in and around your property. There are excess amounts of trash, broken down furniture, old clothes and glass along with leaves left over from the fall. It gives the appearance of a slum. Rats have been spotted in the back portion of your buildings. Not a good look for the city and the building owners. This kind of neglect does not promote a healthy environment.

— Warren

Trump is acting like Emperor Nero, while Rome burns, he plays his fiddle. In Trump’s case, he starts a war and plants himself in Mar-a-Lago for a fund-raising dinner, not in the White House Situation Room managing his serious crises. Will he go to Dover Air Force Base to welcome home the first six dead American soldiers killed in his war? Where is the public outrage? Remember the “clutching of the pearls” when President Obama wore a tan/beige suit in August 2014?
