Papalas withdraws from Nov. election

NILES — After serving 37 years on Niles City Council, Stephen Papalas has decided not to pursue another term, withdrawing his name from the list of candidates for the November election. Elected in 1979, Papalas said he has never lost an election, and served under five mayors. He withdrew his name with the Trumbull County Board of Elections on July 13. MINERAL RIDGE — Janice K. Seletas, 77, died Friday, July 14, 2017, at Vista Center at the Ridge. She was born April 16, 1940, in Beaver Falls, Pa., a daughter of Carmen and Genevieve DiNello DeSalle. Janice is survived by her son, George R. Niles forms panel to promote levy

NILES — The Niles Board of Education met July 15 with school administrators and local residents to begin forming levy campaign committees and ways to help promote a planned 10-year, 9.25-mill emergency operating levy for day-to-day needs and operations in the district. Treasurer Linda Molinaro said the levy would generate $2 million per year. A special meeting will be 5 p.m. Monday at the Administration Building to give final reading on the levy. Robert R. Cartwright 1950-2017

McDONALD — Robert Russell Cartwright, 67, died Friday, July 14, 2017. He was born April 1, 1950, in Youngstown, a son of Russell and Jean Seitz Cartwright. He was a former member of St. Rose Parish in Girard and was a military policeman in the Army Reserve. He was an art dealer for Oh My Godard art gallery. He is survived by a daughter, Samantha Cartwright of Warren; and one grandchild. Arrangements were provided by Borowski Funeral Home and Oak Meadow Cremation Services.

LIBERTY — James “Jim” E. Pace, a Niles auto dealer, 78, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at his home. Jim was born Feb. 24, 1939, in Akron, to Mario and Evelyn Pace. He owned and operated Jim Pace Pontiac, Saturn of Route 422 in Niles. Additionally, he owned the GM specialty parts distribution company, Pace Performance. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ralph B. Chuey 1930-2017

GIRARD — Ralph B. Chuey, 87, of Girard, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Ralph was born May 29, 1930, in Youngstown, to Andrew and Mary Bunofsky Chuey. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a delivery truck driver for Wonder Bread and Hostess Cake. Survivors include his wife, Colette Martin; his daughters, Erin Meyer of Huntington Beach, Calif. and Shawna Chuey of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren; and his brother, Tom Chuey of Poland. Arrangements were handled by Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard.
