NILES -- After serving 37 years on Niles City Council, Stephen Papalas has decided not to pursue another term, withdrawing his name from the list of candidates for the November election.
Elected in 1979, Papalas said he has never lost an election, and served under five mayors.
He withdrew his name with the Trumbull County Board of Elections on July 13.
Papalas holds one of three at-large seats. Democrats Michael Lastic and Ryan McNaughton are seeking re-election to their seats, while Republican John David Priddy and James V. DePasquale Jr., an independent and former safety service director in Niles, are seeking the at-large seats.
The deadline for write-in candidates to file is Aug. 28.
