Francis Whetstone 1932-2017

NILES — Francis “Frank” Whetstone, 84, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Autumn Hills Care Center in Niles. He was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Warren, the son of Francis and Florence Smith Whetstone. He was of the Protestant faith. He is survived by his son, Charles Dennison of Niles; daughter, Genevieve Whetstone of Niles; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Dennison Whetstone; six brothers; and two sisters. Arrangements were by the Whetstone Funeral Home, Niles.

Bertha I. Strock 1927-2017

NILES — Bertha Irene Strock, 89, died Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Bertha was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Indiana, Pa., the daughter of Eugene Arthur and Flora Viola Grove Russell Sr. She was a member of the Niles First Baptist Church and was a sales consultant in the men’s department at the former Carlisle Department Store. Loretta A. Sampson 1937-2017

NILES — Loretta Ann Sampson, 79, died Friday, July 21, 2017, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Loretta was born Oct. 17, 1937, in McDonald, a daughter of Mathew and Emma Wishak Luknis. She was a quality inspector for General Electric. Survivors include two sons, Donald Sampson of Mineral Ridge and Jeff Sampson of McDonald; four grandchildren; a sister, Delores McCale of McDonald; and a brother, Donald Luknis of McDonald. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Sampson; and one brother. Arrangements were handled by Lane Funeral Home, Mineral Ridge Chapel.

William R. Lawrence 1923-2017

MINERAL RIDGE — William R. “Bob” Lawrence, 94, of Mineral Ridge, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. Bob was born March 28, 1923, in Emlenton, Pa., the son of George S. and Erma G. Ace Lawrence. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a long-time member of Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church. He retired from Carpenters Local 171 in Youngstown. GIRARD — Ronald M. Lewis, 67, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Hospice House. Ronald was born May 31, 1950, in Mineral Ridge, a son of Merle and Joann Evans Lewis.
