Youngstown mayor’s award was misguided

DEAR EDITOR: I am forever confused by the “awards” people are granted. Mayor Tito Brown was awarded Energy Justice Champion award for fighting the SOBE pyrolysis plant. Youngstown (and all cities) spend hundreds of thousands of dollars each year picking up illegally discarded tires. They pay companies to shred and possibly recycle the tires into some products, but the majority of used tires end up as landfill. SOBE wants to shred the tires and super heat them in an oven until they turn into a gas and carbon black…The carbon has a ton of uses and the gas can be burned to heat ...

Mismanagement a concern in Trumbull

DEAR EDITOR: As a concerned taxpayer, I am alarmed by the wasteful spending and lack of accountability demonstrated by our county commissioners. Once again, the Human Resources director has been awarded an annual raise of approximately 10 percent, despite her continued reliance on costly consultants to perform basic HR functions. This individual is reportedly spending $10,000 a month on these consultants, a glaring admission of her inability to fulfill the demands of her position. Cold-weather boating is quite dangerous

DEAR EDITOR: As a past member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, it was disturbing to see the photo on the front page of the Friday 12/20 newspaper. One of the things we taught in our safe boating classes was the danger involved in cold-weather boating. In particular, cold water shock, hypothermia, and drowning. The first and last of these factors can be mitigated by simply wearing a PFD, or personal floatation device (life jacket).
