Trump has really jumped the shark

DEAR EDITOR: Once Trump can get his own Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner in place, no number will be safe. Inflation rates, unemployment rates, GDP, consumer confidence and more are compiled by this office. In fact, the Social Security COLA is being compiled right now. That number is the average of the inflation rate of July, August and September. No matter what the number is, or whether or not Trump’s appointment is in place, recipients (including me) will wonder if the inflation rate is actually higher or did the commissioner and staff shave some points for fear of losing ...

DEAR EDITOR: The conviction of former Vienna fiscal officer Linda McCullough represents a significant step forward in the healing process of our community. The conviction represents a real consequence for those who try to rip off taxpayers. While we’re not the first township to experience something like this, hopefully we will be one of the last. DEAR EDITOR: President Trump’s recently signed Big, Beautiful Bill promises to disenroll up to 17 million Americans from Medicaid, according to reputable sources. Use opioid settlement funds carefully here

DEAR EDITOR: I urge the Trumbull County Commissioners, celebrating the recent arrival of $2.5 million in opioid settlement funds, to listen to others and spend this money wisely. It should not be used to supplement current agencies facing budget shortfalls, as a recent newspaper article appeared to indicate. It should be used primarily for education and prevention efforts. Not so long ago there was this push to “arrest our way” out of the problem and it failed mightily. Organization honors nurses in region

DEAR EDITOR: Recently the Nurse Honor Guard of Eastern Ohio participated in funeral services I attended for a nurse here in our community. As a nurse myself, I was so moved by their presentation, it was truly wonderful! As nurses, we are not always appreciated and treated poorly at times despite our hard work and dedication. The Warren police chief should resign. We need a chief that actually lives in Warren instead of Howland. It’s only human nature that a person would care more about a community in which they actually live.
