Mill Creek Park is in need of new management

DEAR EDITOR: We read that numerous roads and trails in Mill Creek Park are to be closed for years, (yes, years!) in an extensive program aimed at stopping the alleged pollution of the creek and its three lakes. As a frequent park walker, I am not aware of a situation that would mandate a program of this massive scope. Mill Creek already carries the effluent from the Boardman Sewage Treatment Plant as well as the far from pristine discharges of streams flowing into it from the east, west and south. And it flows into a river of questionable quality. This would seem to be a huge ...

Sound off!

I have two questions for State Rep. Dave Thomas. Republicans have had majority control in Columbus, Ohio, for 48 of the last 50 years, and super-majority control during the recent massive property tax increase. 1) Why are you and your party only now trying to solve a problem that has been yours for 48 years? And 2) Will your property-tax-bill approach reduce (police, fire, EMS) union memberships? Thus, reducing further the number of middle-class citizens in our state. — Cortland It is clear who is a hero and who is not. Sen. Mark Kelly earned dozens of combat service medals ...

If Joe Biden had demolished the East Wing

DEAR EDITOR: If Joe Biden had suddenly felt the need to bedazzle the Oval Office with gold leaf, his OWN PARTY (never mind the Republicans) would have concluded he’d gone nuts, and removed him under the 25th Amendment. If Joe Biden had ripped down the East Wing of the White House, without telling or asking anybody else in government, to make room for a ballroom that he alone designed, or paved over the Rose Garden, and made it look like the garden furniture section of Walmart, his OWN PARTY would correctly conclude he’d gone nuts, and removed him. If Joe Biden had decided to ...

Ode to State Liquor Store #109 on Meridian Road

DEAR EDITOR: Twas the day before Christmas and all through the store, customers purchased as if booze would be made no more. The manager, Mike, was pulling his hair because business was so brisk the shelves were quickly getting bare. Wild Turkey, Ancient Age, Maker’s Mark and Jim Beam passed through the check-out so fast that the cashier was ready to scream. Imperial, Black Velvet, Kessler’s and Old Crab were in such demand that carts were used because people couldn’t hold bottles in their hands. Tequila was going so fast — that section was taken by storm — they were ...

Applaud Australian stance on kids and social media

DEAR EDITOR: I applaud Australia for not allowing children under 16 on any social media. Psychologists always say their brains are not mature enough to be an adult for everything they do. Shame on this generation of parents for even giving these kids a phone. What were you thinking? They didn’t pay for it! Used to be “Why can’t I have a bike, Susie has one.” And my parents said, “If Susie jumps off a bridge, are you going to do it too?” “You can’t always give children things. They will expect it the rest of their lives. This teaches them why bother working when ...

Why do voters continue to elect RINOs?

DEAR EDITOR: It will soon be voting time again and we will see the Democrats running as Republicans so they might be able to win. Why not? We have a RINO governor and, as I see it, we have a RINO commissioner. First, our governor votes with the Dems on the death penalty. Why? Our commissioner gives money away like the Dems, without blinking an eye. We have a congressman that no one knows and will not answer a question about things like Medicare. While the Republicans are giving more money to Medicaid to get a vote, they are forgetting about the people on Medicare. Their premiums went ...
