Sound off!

Denny Malloy wants to be reelected as county commissioner, but why? By Malloy’s own poor decision-making, he has burned through nearly 39 million of ARP funds without addressing the pressing needs of the County Dog Pound, 911 Center, coroner’s facility, deteriorating administration steps, the Law Library and the deterioration of many county buildings and parking lots. Malloy spent zero on capital expenditures and sadly, he verbally abused former dog warden, Michelle Goss, telling her to “grow a set of b.lls!” before she resigned. It’s time for a new commissioner.

As a global-warming activist, this weather has taken me by storm. How do I reconcile my beliefs during this Armageddon with subzero-zilla bearing down on our once-roasting planet? Am I in denial? Yes, the once-legion global-warming followers are jumping ship nowadays, but it’s heart-warming knowing that I have (very little nowadays) company. As Mister Rogers would say: “Won’t you be my friend?”

Why would any country give Trump one billion dollars for a place on his “Board of Peace”? I am not sure he understands the meaning of “peace,” given his alienation of our allies. He would probably pocket it to join the one and a half billion he has already fleeced from the American people. Besides, NATO is alive and well, at least so far unless Trump does something even more stupid.

When a police officer fatally shoots someone, there is always a full investigation into the justification of the shooting, and the officer may be punished when they are found at fault. Why is this same procedure not followed for ICE agents? And why does the administration automatically justify the killing?

Oh, to go back to those crazy hippies and their “Peace and Love.” We have lost our country’s allies, we are angry and unhappy, can’t pay the bills, have horrible and corrupt people in charge, Americans have been murdered by ill-trained ICE agents, and we have a president who is mentally unfit and has insulted the world leaders AND has an inept bunch in his cabinet. But don’t forget the Republicans are doing little to help, or the inept Supreme Court.

Cortland’s mayor needs to be removed. On Feb. 3, the recall election ballot question is “Should the Mayor continue …” Vote “no” to get the city back on track. The mayor deserves a “no” vote because of all the issues and problems created over the past year. Examples: No service director hired, no progress on a new fire station, no West Main Street revitalization and the events center. Not to mention the difficulties the mayor created in administrative and operational affairs. Cortland needs to end the disaster.

Where do these brain-dead Sound Off contributors get their insane ideas? It’s all opinions; not facts. This week at Davos ,that’s the World Economic Forum for you morons, Trump explained the strategic importance of Greenland to the US and the EU. They agreed; the U.S. has control of Greenland. He established the Board of Peace with 18 countries to resolve global conflicts and strife that NATO refused to resolve for decades. Facts, not opinion.

Ursuline wants mediation, so it won’t have to go to trial to defend accused employees and football players. This, in itself, implies guilt. The fact is that the school doesn’t want its dirty secrets exposed to the public. For years, stories of hazing have circulated about the Ursuline football program. Now, finally, some have had the courage to bring it to legal light. Each case should go to court so the public can see what lurks behind those hallowed walls.

Methinks Trump’s tariffs have nothing to do with our economy. It is a tool for Trump to attack his opponents; what a bully. These tariffs cause bad relations with our friends. Manufacturing is down; 68K jobs have been lost since he took over. What has been done for our economy? We used to be the model for the world. 47 has destroyed this. It is all about his bluster and his pocketbook.
