Are we not entertained by Donald Trump?

DEAR EDITOR: “Are we not entertained?” This letter is written especially for my Catholic priests and bishops. Let’s go back a few years when Sen. Mitch McConnell refused to vote on President Barack Obama’s choice for a liberal justice to the Supreme Court. Make no mistake, this was the beginning of Project 2025. “Are we not entertained?” Jan. 6, 2021 Trump instigates thousands of his followers to stop a joint session of Congress, which was certifying the electoral votes of the 2020 presidential election, shouting, “Hang Mike Pence. “ This was Trump’s attempt to ...

A return to 1958 author’s ‘The Ugly American’

DEAR EDITOR: In 1958, the political novel, “The Ugly American,” was released, authored by William Lederer, captain in the US Navy, and Eugene Burdick, political scientist. One reviewer indicated that this very popular novel dealt with officials and Americans abroad who were “ignorant of local customs, social norms, and cheerfully insensitive” to the citizens of another nation. Allegedly, a 2026 mini-docu-series of this political novel, a sad sequel one might say, is coming out .... like Yogi Berra observed, “Deja vu all over again.” The title is yet to be determined. ...

Look at the pattern that Donald Trump is following

DEAR EDITOR: In September 1939, Adolf Hitler invaded Poland under the pretense of national interest and historical claim. It was framed as a defensive act, a necessary move to protect Germany’s future. The world soon recognized it for what it was: a blatant act of aggression that triggered the deadliest war in human history. That same playbook didn’t end with World War II. In 2014, Vladimir Putin annexed Crimea using similar justifications; protecting Russian-speaking citizens, securing national interests, asserting historical ties. The world objected, but the move stood. Then in ...

Sound off!

An average AI data center takes about 1,500 temporary trades to construct. Once built, it only has about 200 employees, hardly an employment boom. Community residents’ electric bills go up about 25%, not to mention water / sewer. Electric bills for residents should not increase AT ALL! The AI data center should foot the bill to run their operation, just like the old energy hog steel mills had to. It’s no wonder that Lordstown residents are against this so-called “investment.” — Warren We have been Cortland Trib subscribers for 30 years, enjoying reading the news with ...

All of this started a while back with Karl Rove

DEAR EDITOR: You take your opponent’s biggest strength and turn it into a liability. John Kerry served honorably. In Vietnam. The Republicans, with their billionaires and media control, portrayed him as someone who lied about his service. They then portrayed a guy who literally went AWOL while serving in a unit that was designed to keep its members stateside as a hero. The draft ended and many learned what a patriot was. Diversity was strength. All cultures were represented. All economic groups were represented. We learned so much from each other. They learned that with all of ...

TMZ pushes false narrative on Minneapolis ICE shooting

DEAR EDITOR: The TV program, TMZ, a very left-leaning liberal gossip spectacle, was discussing the recent ICE event in Minneapolis. A new video has surfaced from the body camera of the ICE agent involved in the melee. The film shows poetess Renee Good’s vehicle hitting the agent. One irate anti-ICE female TMZ employee, who supports the protester’s action of fleeing the scene by driving away, asked the question, “What else could she have done when a strange, masked man is trying to get into your car?” What a lame, mystifying excuse. I bet that TMZ reporter was a fanatical ...
