Lots of ‘maybes’ about Trump’s war in Iran

DEAR EDITOR: Maybe if Trump had respected the American people by discussing necessary information pertaining to this war beforehand. Maybe if Trump had discussed this war with congress and some smart people. Maybe if Trump didn’t sneak around everybody. Maybe if Trump hadn’t lied about his “attack” intentions. Maybe if Trump threatened less and listened more. Maybe if Trump had something more intelligent than just an ‘idea or thought’ of war. Maybe if Trump didn’t use language like “just for fun” when speaking of this war.. Maybe if Trump and Hegseth ...

How do people keep supporting Trump?

DEAR EDITOR: I simply cannot understand how people can stand behind Trump in their MAGA merch and behave as though chaos is not playing out all around them. I ask myself “are these people stupid? Are they purposefully ignorant of cataclysmic events occurring in this country and the middle east? Do they not see how gas prices, food prices have exploded as a result of the chaos created by their beloved criminal in chief?” I am asking everyone reading my letter to use your God given intelligence and discernment to go beyond the bold faced lies and think for yourselves. Every time ...

Don’t be fooled by Trump’s tax numbers

DEAR EDITOR: When will taxpayers realize that getting a refund is only getting back the money that they overpaid to the IRS? President Donald Trump is just using the refund as a cover-up for the tax changes benefitting the highest earners. Sixty-two percent of the tax advantages will go to those earning between $65,388 and $261,591, and 14% of the benefits will go to the top 5% of earners. Only 6% of the benefits go to the bottom 40% of earners. DONNA NASSER Sharon, Pa.

Trump gets us in yet another ‘no-win’ war

DEAR EDITOR: The definition of “ignorant” is lacking knowledge and training; i.e., uninformed. Our military is taught and trained to not follow illegal orders. If this is true, who is responsible for the non-congressional declaration of war with Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq? The four “no-win” conflicts cost many lives and permanent lifelong injuries. Plus, they cost American taxpayers trillions of dollars, and the military contractors made billions of dollars that could have been used here in the United States. Are our military and the American people ...

Sound off!

We fired Frenchko and Cantalamessa in the last election; now it’s time for a clean sweep. Reckless and irresponsible Denny Malloy must go. He wastefully spent $38 million in a feeble attempt to buy votes, while neglecting our own county infrastructure. He raised our water rates in Howland by 80%, while making no effort to trim costs. He tried to bully our MetroParks board by threatening funding cuts. The state of Ohio FIRED Denny, now it’s time for Trumbull County to do the same. — Warren I’m 74 years old and when I stop at my local convenience store to buy a pack of beer, ...

Libraries offer services vital to communities

DEAR EDITOR: Public libraries succeed because they remain closely connected to the communities they serve. For over one hundred years, the public library has been the centerpiece of Niles, connecting people to one another and to the ideas of the past, present and future. At McKinley Memorial Library, our services are shaped by local needs — whether that means free Wi-Fi access, technology assistance, meeting space or lifelong learning opportunities. For many people in Niles, the library is the only free public space offering reliable internet, technology access and professional ...
