Sound off!

Gov. DeWine is calling for Ohio’s death penalty to be abolished. If inmates are found guilty of heinous crimes and after a reasonable number of appeals are heard, those felons should be put to death by firing squad. That way, there is no need for chemicals (DeWine’s complaint). “Our money is better spent on keeping the violent offenders out of society,” DeWine said. If they are executed in a timely manner, taxpayers’ money wouldn’t be wasted on their lifetime in prison.

With the closure of Trumbull Memorial, vehicle traffic on Eastland Avenue has increased dramatically. This is a residential street. This is not a freeway between East Market and 422. The speed limit is 25. Unless you are an emergency vehicle with lights flashing, slow down! If Warren wants to generate revenue, just put some patrols over here. You could stop speeders every minute of the day. Just because the stop signs were removed along the street does not mean it’s an open invitation to go twice the speed limit.

If the people were as worried about the use of electricity and water when the steel mills were built in the Valley there would not have been any. Copperweld had electric furnaces. Thomas Steel still does electro plating. Republic Steel, US Steel and others used water and electricity. The Niles coal- fired power plant used water. The dams on the Mahoning River were used for Copperweld, Thomas Steel and others. The Summit Street dam made hydroelectric power. Gone all the dams forever. The environment will survive the same with or without the data centers.

Niles writer: You reached back 54 years to find a satirical article Bernie Sanders wrote that you deliberately misrepresent. It was about the difference between men and women’s fantasies, which creates “troubling dynamics in men’s and women’s sex lives.” Meanwhile your guy had 26 women accuse him of some variation of sexual assault, instigated an insurrection, 34 felonies, etc. Platner? Possibly might be a Nazi tattoo vs. loves dictators and has stated he wants to be one, gives Nazi salutes.

The Republicans in Trumbull County voted Dennis Malloy out in the primary, so what does the Republican Party do? They put Malloy in as party chairman. Malloy was a Democrat, then an Independent, and now a Republican but he’ll switch again if it benefits him. He’ll do or say anything to keep himself at the taxpayer food trough. Evidently the Republican committee members must think they are smarter than the Republican voters.

What in the world is wrong with the elected officials in this city? We desperately need a hospital…we have judges who give sentences too lenient for the crimes committed…we have misdirected projects going nowhere. Now we have no animal control because our “leaders” don’t see fit to give adequate funds. We have overpaid council members who are seemingly doing nothing to help correct these problems. What is wrong with you people?

Because of the many road closures in the northern part of Mill Creek Park, to visit Lanterman’s Mill, I used Glenwood Avenue and Canfield Road instead of my usual route through the park. Glenwood Avenue is in terrible shape, very bumpy with many potholes, and it’s sad that a road that borders such a beautiful park is in such disrepair. In addition, three cars went around me at three different red lights and drove right through them. What is wrong with these people? Perhaps the remedy should be to take out all the lights on Glenwood Avenue since so many people ignore them. This would solve the problem of going through the red lights but of course, the honest residents would suffer.

What an unexpected treat to read an article by Mike McLain, former Tribune sportswriter, in Saturday’s paper. Mike was always a favorite, primarily when he wrote about local sports figures, because his writing went beyond facts and statistics. This recent article brought back the glory days of Warren football and made this reader wish for a return to that time of excitement, passion, and a filled stadium. Hopefully, we will see more contributions by him. Thank you, Mike!

So anything new, like data centers and wind farms, is off limits in this area it seems and yet I continuously COMPLAIN about jobs and taxes and how we need economic growth. Youngstown said no to tech that may have saved SOBE but NIMBY ruled the day. We don’t need or use AI so many say while they use AI to complain about anything new. If it makes noise, if it uses water or air, if it uses power we appear to NOT WANT IT. Closed for Business is the new theme. Wow.
