Sound off!

Schools are out and many grandparents will enjoy summer with their grandchildren. Perhaps spending a day with them at the beach or at a park or having a picnic together at a park. Perhaps teaching the grandchild life skills such as cooking or baking. But I can only wish for those days as a misguided Family Court magistrate has decided my grandchild’s father has all the power. My dream is that my grandchild will not forget me.

Kudos to Louisiana, where balloon releases will be illegal beginning August 2026! Balloons cannot reach departed loved ones in heaven; they cannot carry messages of love to those who have died. They only deflate and become a danger to wildlife and litter the environment for years to come. Hopefully, Ohio will follow and make this an illegal practice.

While Trump doesn’t believe in global warming, catastrophic disasters are happening more and more. America must wake up to these occurrences. Florida and Southern states will experience more hurricanes, and thousands of acres are being lost to fires in many states as never before. China is so far ahead in both curbing these disasters as well as providing electrical power via wind turbines and solar power, all that Trump is against as he has no scientific knowledge, and refuses to learn.

So Jason Miner, when called out for saying he lives in a home that was demolished after a fire, claims in a Board of Elections meeting on his eligibility to be a partisan party officer that adults are mean to him because he’s only 20 years old. And that it is partially because he’s a conservative. Wow. So in a county that Trump won three elections in a row, being a conservative is a liability? What a joke. And if he’s old enough to run for and hold office, he can take the hits that he may deserve with the chicanery where his residence is concerned. Jason “Minor” indeed!

It is disheartening that we have the most corrupt, incompetent and harmful president during the country’s 250th anniversary. Not only has he physically destroyed the Capitol grounds, he made a mockery of the White House by adding very tacky gold décor. In addition, and most importantly, he has managed to destroy U.S institutions and our global reputation. The best we can do is try to get him out of our heads and celebrate 250 years respectfully and reverently.

Sherrod Brown had his chance for 50 years to represent us in Ohio and then in Washington, D.C. I have lived here for all of those 50 years and not one thing stands out that he accomplished. We voted him out of Washington in 2024 for a reason. Time for the next group of leaders to take Ohio into the future and replace these dinosaurs. We don’t need a rerun of Sherrod Brown in the U.S. Senate.

Upset about MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) on the White House South Lawn? Many of the same people had no issue with topless transgender activists at a Biden White House event in 2023. This isn’t tit-for-tat –it’s about standards. Which is more appropriate for families: a regulated athletic competition or public displays of transgenders and their nudity? I’d take my kids to an MMA event any day. If you’re going to be outraged, at least be consistent. Wake up, America!
