Joan R. McElhinny 1954-2025
GREENVILLE, Pa. — Joan R. “Joni” McElhinny, 71, of North Stateline Road, West Salem Township, passed away peacefully, Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2025, with her husband Joseph “Joe” McElhinny by her side.
Joni was born June 7, 1954, in Warren, the youngest daughter of the late Willard “Bill” and Juanita Muir of Farmdale. She was a 1972 graduate of Badger High School in Kinsman. She and Joe were married at St. Patrick Church of Kinsman on July 17, 1982, and then built their family home in Greenville.
Joni was the best part of the day for anyone she met, from her token smile, mischievous sense of humor, loving personality and her genuine compassion touched anyone that crossed her path. Her compassionate spirit flowed over into her love for animals as well, from her younger years as a girl living on a farm up to recently with her love for her dog, Kitty, and just making sure the bird feeders were full so she could watch them.
An unbelievably devoted family woman, there were no lengths that she wouldn’t go to for her loved ones. Her favorite and most prized things in the whole world were her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The grand- and great-grands knew her affectionately as “Meem,” the name that her grandson, Easton, gave her in his early childhood.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph “Joe” McElhinny; three children, Jarred (Regina) Mitchell of Warren, Julie (Zack) Krasa of Transfer, Pa., and Janie McElhinny of Erie, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jaqualine and Ciera Mitchell, and Easton, Brooke and Kira Krasa; three great-grandchildren, Anthony Mitchell, Phoenix Mitchell-Bohr and Lily Mitchell; two granddogs, Ruger and Benny; and two sisters, Cheryl Thompson of Canfield and Patti (Wayne) Rodgers of Masury.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard “Bill” and Juanita Muir; and a sister, Linda Muir.
A celebration of Joni’s life will be held at a later date for family and friends.
