Special Olympics set for Saturday

SPECIAL OLYMPICS: The 15th Annual Trumbull County Special Olympics Invitational will take place Saturday at Girard Arrowhead Stadium.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the start of competition at 9:45 a.m. when the games officially begin.
This year’s event will bring together 167 athletes representing five schools: Ashtabula Lakers, Geauga Blue Streaks, Columbiana, Kent-Portage and Trumbull Fairhaven. Athletes from across the region will compete in a day focused on inclusion, achievement and sportsmanship.
The Invitational continues its long-standing tradition of honoring the legacy of Randy Suchanek while celebrating the dedication and accomplishments of Special Olympics athletes throughout the region.
Community members are encouraged to attend and support the athletes as they compete and showcase their hard work and determination.
SECOND HARVEST BUILD DAY: Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will host the annual “Canstruction” event 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Eastwood Mall, with judging at noon Saturday.
The event is a unique competition where teams design and build large-scale structures entirely out of canned food. After the event, all food used in the builds will be donated back to the food bank to help fight hunger across Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. This year’s theme is aquarium.
Local businesses, organizations and community teams will participate. This event helps support the food bank’s mission while engaging the community in a fun and meaningful way.
MOBILE MARKET: The Trumbull County Mobile Market will take place 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Rio Terra, 3600 Block of Rio Vista, Leavittsburg, and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Hampshire House, 1413 Fifth St. SW, Warren. ApplePay, cash, credit and debit cards, and Snap / EBT are accepted.
FAMILY STEPPING UP: “Family Stepping Up for Family” is set 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at North Mar Church, 3855 E. Market St., Warren. The event is free and includes a light lunch. The event focuses on kinship caregivers and adoptive parents with information on resources and supports to help families on this journey.

BOOK CLUB: McKinley Memorial Library will present its Fantasy and Sci-fi Book Club at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. This month, participants will bring their own fantasy or sci-fi book to discuss with the group.
ALZHEIMER SUPPORT: The Alzheimer Network support group will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2305 S. Canfield Niles Road, Austintown. The alternative method to reach the Alzheimer Network is to call 330-788-9755 anytime to speak about concerns.
GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY TO MEET: Weather permitting, the meeting of the Trumbull County Genealogical Society will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Warren Public Library, then proceed across the street to Pioneer Cemetery, behind the former Red Cross Building, where a cemetery tour will take place. All are welcome.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY OPEN HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral Home and Mineral Ridge Historical Society are open 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The home is open the second Sunday of each month from April to November. They are located at 1499 and 1476 Burnett St. in Mineral Ridge.
KINSHIP SUMMER CAMP: Registration is now open for the Easterseals of Northeast Ohio Kinship Summer Camp, a free summer program designed specifically for children being raised by relative caregivers.
The camp will run June 8 through July 30, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., providing a safe, supportive and fun environment where children can learn, play and build friendships. Free transportation is available for children living in Youngstown, and campers will receive a hot lunch and snacks each day.
Kinship Summer Camp is designed for children who are being raised by an adult relative age 55 or older who serves as their primary caregiver. Eligible campers must be between the ages of 5 and 10 and fully potty trained.
Throughout the summer, campers will enjoy a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, games, outdoor recreation, team-building activities and educational enrichment.
