A police sergeant responding to a 911 call about a break-in and gunshots at an Ohio home was fatally shot, and the suspect and two other people also died, authorities said. McDONALD — Village council is seeking applicants to fill an opening on village council as Councilman Don Smith will be moving from the village after his final meeting July 15. Any resident interested in filling the remainder of Smith’s term can submit a letter of interest to the municipal building by Friday. Council will review the applicants at the July 15 meeting. Smith served as chairman of the finance and levy committees.

Falls board OKs contract renewal for superintendent

NEWTON FALLS — The Board of Education has approved a contract renewal for Superintendent Andreas Johansson, continuing his leadership of the district. Johansson has served as superintendent since August 2024. When Johansson was hired, his salary was $118,000. The contract is effective Aug. 1, 2027, to July 31, 2030, under the same terms and conditions of his current contract, with the exception of an enhanced contribution of 15% to the health insurance premium.
