Falls board OKs contract renewal for superintendent

NEWTON FALLS — The Board of Education has approved a contract renewal for Superintendent Andreas Johansson, continuing his leadership of the district.

Johansson has served as superintendent since August 2024.

When Johansson was hired, his salary was $118,000. The contract is effective Aug. 1, 2027, to July 31, 2030, under the same terms and conditions of his current contract, with the exception of an enhanced contribution of 15% to the health insurance premium.

Board President Tonya Kline said the board’s action provides continued leadership and stability as Newton Falls Schools prepares for the 2026-27 school year and continues its work to drive student academic and athletic performance, strengthen community relationships and provide an excellent educational experience for every student.

School board members said during Johansson’s tenure, the district has continued to make progress in academics, student opportunities, school safety, operational efficiency, community engagement and overall district culture.

School board members said under his leadership, Newton Falls schools have remained focused on improving student achievement, strengthening academic and extracurricular programming, supporting staff, enhancing district facilities and operations and building stronger relationships with families and the greater Newton Falls community.

The district has also continued to advance its shared vision of “One District. One Board. One Community.” while promoting excellence, accountability, belonging and Tiger Pride throughout the school system.

“I am grateful for the board’s continued confidence and the opportunity to keep serving the students, staff, families and community of Newton Falls,” Johansson said.

“We have made meaningful progress together, but there is still important work ahead. I look forward to building on that momentum, continuing to raise expectations and ensuring that every decision remains focused on what is best for students.”

Johansson has a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Kent State University and has more than two decades of experience in public education, technology, school operations, transportation and district leadership

In other business, the board:

• Approved the 2026-27 school calendar with the first day for students Aug. 20 and last day May 27, 2027.

• Approved the Tiger Trail Kindergarten Readiness Program for Aug. 3 to 13 at $40 for teachers and $18 for paraprofessionals who help with the program.

• Approved a Bureau of Workers’ Compensation school safety and security grant of $27,525.

• Approved a contract addendum to the technology/EMIS coordinator position effective July 1 to June 30, 2028, providing an annual stipend of $4,500 for social media management and website-related duties. The stipend will be paid in two installments of $2,250 in August and the second installment in February.

• Hired Morgan Farley as a fifth-grade teacher, McKenzie Kilbourne as a fourth-grade teacher and Bailey Doran as an intervention specialist.

• Approved an agreement with The Nutrition Group for the 2026-28 school year, which provides menus and lunches for the school district.,

• Approved the cross-country summer camp Gopher A Run July 26 to 31 at Rock Creek.

• Approved the job description for student success and behavioral support coordinator position.
