Three Warren men have cases resolved in court

WARREN — A man accused of firing a gun outside a city gas station in April pleaded guilty this week to charges of felonious assault and discharge of a firearm on/near prohibited premises, both with a one-year gun specification. Makai J. Sims, 26, Heather Lane NW, Warren, was indicted in early June on the same charges, but the second charge carried a three-year gun specification. He will be sentenced by Judge Cynthia Westcott after the Trumbull County Adult Probation Department completes a background investigation, but he faces at least a mandatory one-year term because of the firearm ...

2 lawsuits filed in crash that killed Canfield trooper

YOUNGSTOWN — The estate of Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper Nicholas Cayton has filed a lawsuit against the driver of the concrete truck who hit the back of Cayton’s cruiser Oct. 16 on state Route 11 in Canfield, killing Cayton. The estate also sued the company where the truck driver worked. The truck driver who was injured but survived the crash also has filed a lawsuit naming those same defendants. ODOT seeks input on culverts

SOUTHINGTON — The Ohio Department of Transportation is seeking comments on proposed culvert repairs that will impact seven locations, including one in Southington. The $1.4 million project is scheduled to begin in 2027 and will impact several stretches of road in Summit, Portage, Stark and Trumbull counties. Lane restrictions will be in place on U.S. 422 in Southington, just west of Phalanx Mills Herner Road. Dog found dead in Warren yard

WARREN — The Healthy Hearts and Paws Project’s Humane Division, alongside animal control for Warren and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a call of a chained-up dog in distress at a residence on Central Parkway SE. A posting on the Healthy Hearts and Paws social media site said the callers stated the dog was pacing frantically in temperatures of 98 degrees. When crews arrived, the dog was found lying on its side and unresponsive. Howland board hears busing update

HOWLAND — The upcoming school year is still two months away, and the district is hoping to have its transportation plans ironed out before then, the Howland Board of Education learned Monday.
