Newton Falls to seek funds for its community center

NEWTON FALLS — New Village Manager Jeremy Shaffer has been meeting with village department heads on various projects, but one that he will focus on is fixing up the community center at the park, Shaffer told village council he has been in contact with Congressman David Joyce’s office to see what federal funding may be available for the work. LIBERTY — A Youngstown man accused of stealing cash from a local hotel is set to return to court today. Road funding vote targets industrial park

The disbursement of $1.3 million for road improvements adjacent to a newly opened Warren industrial park will be voted on Sept. 29. The Ohio Department of Development sent the Roadwork Development Grant request Thursday to the Ohio Controlling Board. Owner of troubled convenience store drops objections to liquor permit loss

WARREN — The owner of the Convenient Food Mart on Elm Road has withdrawn his objection to the removal of the store’s liquor license. Warren officials sought removal of the license after a fatal Aug. 3, 2025, shooting at the store and other issues. McDonald chiefs express need for safety forces levy

McDONALD — The police and fire chiefs of McDonald expressed the need for passage of a 4.5-mill safety forces levy on the November ballot. The chiefs also noted if a business locates at the former McDonald Steel property, it will mean additional taxes for the village, which will help the safety forces. Village council has placed a 4.5-mill, five-year levy on the ballot to generate $310,000 for funding police, fire and emergency medical service.
